Approved by the State Cultural Relics Administrative Bureau, China Lantern Museum was set up in 1992 “as an organization for collection, protection and research of China lanterns”. Since February 1 of 1994 when the Opening Ceremony of the 4th Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival & Trade Fair was held, China Lantern Museum has receiveded around one million of tourists. China Lantern Museum locates in Lantern Park of Zigong city, Sichuan Province with total building area of 6375 square metres, covering an area of 2200 sqaure mtres. The design of China Lantern Museum invited pubic bidding around the nation and the design plan was assessed by a professional group headed by late master archetect Mr. Dai Nianci. The archetecture design coming from the archetectural department of Southeast University was accepted as its final plan. The whole building has a strong flavor of Chinese nationality and makes a feature of professional museum of lantern culture. The experts from archetectural sector speak highly of it to be a masterpiece. It was awarded respectively “Tianfu Cup” Archetecture Gold Prize within Sichuan province and “Luban Prize” of China Archetectural Design. The establishement of China Lantern Museum takes important effect in carrying on and expanding national culture, in protection and research of motherland’s cultural heritages, in deeply tapping the contents of folklore and in enriching the famors historical and cultural ctiy. Earliy or later, China Lantern Museum has displayed its lantern shows in twenty-four large or midium sized domestic cities, playing the foundation role of lantern show to be one of “Three Uniques” of Zigong city, which is famors for the title of historical and cultural city. China Lantern Mjseum is the group member of China Museum Association, one of top tourism units within Sichuan and Chongqing, one of tourist spots concerning foreign affairs in Zigong, the mainly protected tourism enterprise of Zigong and one of the national “AAA” level scenic spots. China Lantern Museum has a group of managerial personel with good quality. It sets six guides including full-time or part-time guides speaking respectively in four foreign languages. More than ten of the staff are members of China Museum Association and twelve of them are the members of the National Folklore (nationality) Museum Profession Committee.
